For use with the Studio Sewing Skills DVD
This instructional sewing packet provides the cut samples and patterns for the sewing exercises outlined in Connie Crawford’s Instructional Manual and the Studio Sewing Skills DVD. The sewing samples provided, guide the student in building sewing knowledge progressively while learning the basics of sewing. These exercises teach students how to operate a sewing machine, sew various seams, darts, bias bindings, facings, and zippers. Each sewing sample leads students through sewing projects without overwhelming them with too much detail. When the DVD is used as a sewing guide, you can view it at a time convenient for your busy schedule. You can stop and start and watch each step repeatedly until you are comfortable with the information and techniques you are shown.
When these samples are completed, the student is ready to select a pattern (Butterick B5047 Camp Shirt) and sew a garment with enough detail to obtain a greater understanding of how to construct any garment. The selected pattern will teach students how to select fabric, layout a pattern, cutting techniques, and assemble a garment in a logical sequence. As student practice this construction process, they will refine the skills learned in the exercises, and obtain a greater understanding of how to assemble a garment in a logical and time efficient sequence. Self confidence and imagination will abound as they continue to sew more projects.
Students today want to complete a project that encourages them to sew more and more. The conceptual approach of this easy sewing method allows students to learn and evaluate the sewing process in a basic and comprehensive manner.
