FULL-FIGURED WOMEN
Full-figured women have the same height proportions as their skinnier counterparts - average, petite and tall. However, the additional features of full-figured women are rounded shoulders, fuller stomachs, thicker waistlines, and various body stances. These features must be translated into special pattern proportions for accurate clothing fit.
Our patterns are designed for full-figured women's proportions, fitting the three common silhouettes - Rubenesque, Apple and Pear. The armholes, shoulder width/angle, and necklines are specially designed to drape correctly on any of these figures (See Illustrations 1 & 2 for more information on figure silhouettes).
Plus-size women can be categorized into three body silhouettes. Each silhouette describes overall body contour along with its unique shaping. Remember, all three figure types have added padding throughout their body, just in different proportions.
Our patterns are proportioned for the Rubenesque figure. If desired, slight pattern alterations may be made for the other figure types. (See Illustrations)
Rubenesque figure -75% of the full-figured women are this figure. They have added fullness evenly throughout their bodies, resulting in a fuller bust, fuller biceps, fuller stomach and slightly fuller hip than the bust. They have definitely lost a visible waistline.
Apple figure - 12% are in this category. These women are profoundly "top heavy". They are full-busted and have additional padding only in the mid section - with no waistline indentation. They also have skinny arms, skinny legs, and a fairly flat tush. This figure may wish to create a smaller armhole and select a smaller sleeve on these patterns.
Pear figure - 12% are in this category. These women have a smaller bust, added weight in the midsection with no visible waistline, full rounded upper arms, and/or large bulging thighs. Their hip measurement is over 12 inches more than the bust measurement. On our patterns they may wish to make the hip area, slightly larger at the side seams.
